The Akhil Bhartiya Mithila Sangh felicitates Mithila’s heroes

“The Akhil Bhartiya Mithila Sangh celebrated its Golden Jubilee celebration at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on December 24, 2017. Thousands of Mithila residents came together from 24 states and participated in the programme. On this occasion, Bihar’s very own, Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh Sanitation and Social Reform Movement, was awarded the ‘Mithila Ratna’ award. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh honoured Dr Pathak by presenting him with garlands and souvenirs.  Puri Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati was also present at the event. On this occasion, the January-March issue of the quarterly, Akhil Bhartiya Mithila Sangh Research Journal, ‘Tirabukhti’ was also launched. The function was attended by BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Prabhat Jha, Madhubani MP, Hukmdev Narayan Yadav, and Akhil Bharatiya Mithila Sangh National President, Vijay Chandra Jha.

“Pathak Ji is known world-wide”- Sumitra Mahajan
Addressing the gathering, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan praised Dr Pathak and said that the work of people like Dr Pathak exemplifies the Indian tradition. She said that our country’s soil gives birth to people like Dr Pathak who dedicate their lives to the salvation of the backward people in our society. The whole world praises Dr Pathak due to the work he has accomplished and the lives he has changed. She said that the land of Mithila has always imparted the tradition of sacrifice and service for the country. Starting from people like Kapil Muni and Raja Janak, and to Phaniswaranath Renu, they all have given something significant to our country. Democracy itself originated from Mithila. She assured that she would request the government from her side to build the temple for Mother Sita at Sitamarhi, who has recently become the subject of faith-related discussions in the country.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh referring to the Maithili language said that he is proud that the Maithili language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Describing the cultural heritage of Mithila as great, he said that as a mark of respect for the famous Mithilanchal epigraph (hat), the Indian government had issued a stamp of it in August, 2017.
He praised Maithili literature and said that Mahakavi Vidyapati had developed a love for the language. In Maithili literature, the Vidyapati era is compared to Shakespeare’s period in English. Speaking of Mithila’s contribution to Yoga, Singh said that Yoga originated in India and the beginning of yoga in India was in Mithila. The Bihar Yoga School in Munger is world-renowned. On the contribution of Mithila in the freedom struggle, Singh said that the stick on the support of which Gandhiji brought freedom to India had given by Mithila villagers to him on October 12, 1934, at Gorghat village.

“People from Nepal and India should come together” - Puri Peethadeeshwa Jagadguru Swami Nishchalanand Saraswati
Puri Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Swami Nishchalanand Saraswati, who was born in Mithila, said that some areas of Mithila fall in the neighbouring country of Nepal. In the future, there should be a programme wherein both the residents of Mithila in India and in Nepal can get together. This would further strengthen the ‘Roti-Beti’ relationship between India and Nepal. He said Mithila’s intelligence and the power of its labour is known in the whole world. The Bihar government should also utilise this power and make the state better.

“Swearing an oath in Maithili” - Hukmdev Yadav
BJP MP from Madhubani, Hukmdev Yadav said “In the Lok Sabha, I was told that I had to take the oath in Hindi or English. I declined and  after 3 days, I took  my oath in Maithili.”
“We Mithila residents can leave everything except our language. We will always fight for its honour,” he added.

“Hoping that Mother Sita’s great temple gets built” - Prabhat Jha
Convenor of the ceremony and BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Prabhat Jha said that the Ram temple in Ayodhya should also be built quickly because that’s what we all want. Also in Sitamarhi of Mithila, Mother Sita should have a grand temple.
He said, “I have requested the State and Central governments regarding the temple of Mother Sita and, fortunately, the work has started.”  He reiterated his commitment to restoring the birthplace of the Mahakavi Vidyapati, Vespi. Jha had also urged the government to restore the residence of the famous Maithili resident, Mandana Mishra, who was the rival and disciple of Adi Shankaracharya.  Maithili’s famous author Laxman Jha Sagar has received the Babu Sahib Chowdhury Award on the occasion. Senior writer Virender Malik was given the Bhogendra Jha honour. Maithili senior writer Dr Bhima Jha was also honoured. Dr Abha Jha Chaudhary was given the Mithila Vibhuti honour.
