WATER, A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT IN SLOVENIA

It is the first EU country to take the step

An amendment that declares the country’s water supplies to be ‘a public good managed by the state’ and ‘not a market commodity’ has been adopted by the Slovenian Parliament.

The two million people strong country has added water to its Constitution as a fundamental right for all. It is the first European Union (EU) country to take the step.
