The Himachal government feels it will be a profitable venture to tap rooftop solar energy. Officials say the remote district of Lahaul-Spiti also has enormous potential for generation of solar power and the state will soon take the lead in generating it. The state electricity board and the Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Authority (HIMURJA) have been asked to promote solar energy. At the inaugural session of a workshop it was found that hydel power is the backbone of energy in hilly states and it has now decided that Himachal Pradesh will now tap the other vital renewable energy source: solar, especially in Lahaul-Spiti.

Uttar Pradesh government has devised a system to evaluate performance of the districts on the basis of 34 health indicators, an official statement said. The system that was started in July this year focuses on indicators of family planning, maternal & child health, data quality of Health Management Information System and budget utilisation of National Health Mission (NHM) funding. In July, Bareilly, Baghpat, Kannauj, Moradabad, Lalitpur and Shamli were ranked as the best performing districts on health indicators while Kanpur Dehat, Ghazipur, Ballia, Meerut, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Faizabad and Bijnor were ranked as poor performing districts, as per the statement.

Delhi Metro launched a Swachh Metro campaign on the second anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The campaign lasted six days beginning October 2. The objective was to reinforce the message of cleanliness among the public and work to better the environment at all metro stations, its installations and their surroundings.
